London . A new study has shown that up to a third of people who are fully vaccinated who have cold-like symptoms may actually be infected with COVID-19. According to Professor Tim Spector from King’s College London, the Daily Mail reported that anyone with symptoms such as a runny nose or sore throat should isolate and avoid all sides until they have a negative result.
He said that people should not wait for the ‘odor or taste to disappear, fever or cough to come.
“Right now, we’re guessing that somewhere between one in three and one in four colds is actually due to COVID,” Spector said.
He told Times Radio that the UK should be aware of who we are testing, and ‘isolate people with cold-like symptoms.
Professor Spector said that to prevent the spread of Omicron, people should stay at home for a few days if they show any symptoms of a cold.
He said, “So we should really encourage people like this not to come into the office, don’t go to the Christmas party if they’re feeling unwell. Get a test done and then, when the symptoms subside, So they can come out.”
The report said scientists hope that Omicron will not cause more severe symptoms and that the T-cell immunity provided by the vaccines will prevent severe disease. T-cells are a type of white blood cells that kill Covid.
However, this could take a few weeks as trials are underway to see how well Omicron develops immunity from vaccines. (IANS)
