
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari appealed to US-based electric car maker company Tesla to start its production in India at the earliest. Gadkari assured Tesla that the government would help Tesla in its entirety. He suggested to Tesla that if the company delays, other companies will start making Tesla Standard vehicles. Gadkari said this while addressing a session of Raisina talks. During this time he answered many questions related to electric vehicles, battery manufacturing, and scrap policy.
Gadkari said that given the manner in which India is emphasizing on electric vehicles, there is a golden opportunity for Tesla to set up a factory here. He said that Tesla is taking parts from Indian car makers and it would be financially viable for him to set up his center here.

The picture will change in two years
Gadkari said, ‘I had a video conference with Tesla Management. I suggested to them that this is a golden opportunity to start a factory in India because, as far as vehicle components are concerned, Tesla is already procuring equipment from Indian manufacturers. ‘ Gadkari expressed confidence that India will be in a position to manufacture Tesla-level electric vehicles in the next two years, given the improvement in Indian products. He said, ‘This is in Tesla’s interest. I would suggest to them that you start manufacturing here as soon as possible. ‘

Other companies can kill
Gadkari assured that Tesla could manufacture its own vendors and also export vehicles to other countries. Gadkari also suggested that Tesla should start operations in India soon, otherwise other EV manufacturers operating in India will soon be able to manufacture cars from Tesla’s standers. The minister said, “If you manufacture here, we will help you in India.” He said that the government has special emphasis on e-vehicles. The minister said that Tesla intends to start marketing from Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai in the initial phase. He emphasized that India has the potential to become the world’s largest producer of e-vehicles in the next five years.
According to recent media reports, Tesla is going to start its business in India soon. The company will first bring its cheapest Model 3 sedan by the end of this year. According to the report, the Tesla Model 3 will be imported as a fully built unit (CBU). It can cost 55 lakh rupees in India.
