Former England captain Michael Vaughan criticized the Indian team management for not keeping left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the squad for the first Test cricket match, terming it a ‘ridiculous decision’. Kuldeep Yadav has been adorning the bench for the last three months.

He only got a chance to play one ODI in the Australian tour. Ravindra Jadeja could not play the first two Tests against England due to injury and therefore most former players believed that Kuldeep should get a place in the playing XI.

Vaughan (Michael Vaughan) tweeted, ‘India’s ridiculous decision not to keep Kuldeep Yadav in the team. If he is not getting a chance to play on home pitches due to injury, then when will he play?

India included standby Shahbaz Nadeem in the playing eleven after bowling all-rounder Axar Patel was ruled out due to injury.

England scored 263 for 3 on the first day of the Chennai Test match on the strength of captain Joe Root and opener Dominic Sibley. Root hit a century in his 100th Test match and partnered 200 runs with Sibli. For India, Pacer Jasprit Bumrah was able to leave the mark on the first day, taking two wickets for 40 runs. Apart from him, Ravichandran Ashwin also took a wicket blow.
