Himachal Pradesh, located in India, is a state that holds a special place in the eyes of tourists all over the world for its natural beauty. Himachal Pradesh has many tourist places-Mussoorie, Manali, Dehradun, Kullu, Shimla, Nainital-etc. These tourist places include Mandi, a city situated amidst natural beauty and high hills, which is the second largest city and district of Himachal in terms of population after Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Mandi, formerly known as Mandav Nagar and Tibetan as Zahor, is a town in Mandi district in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is also the headquarters of the district and situated on the banks of the Beas river is an important tourist destination of Himachal as well as a religious and cultural center.
Mandi Nagar is located 145 kilometers (90 mi) north of the state capital, Shimla. It holds importance from the point of view of tourism and the Navratri fair organized here is famous. Held every year on the occasion of Navratri in Mandi, this fair has a different identity in the world. It is known as Varanasi of Hills or Choti Kashi or Kashi of Himachal. The people of Mandi proudly claim that there are only 80 temples in Banaras (Kashi), while there are 81 temples in Mandi. It was once the capital of the princely state of Mandi. Mandi Nagar was established in 1527 by Ajbar Sen. The princely state of Mandi remained in existence till 1948. Later the main city was shifted from Old Mandi to New Mandi.
