
October 2021 has not been special in terms of sales for Maruti Suzuki. According to the Rushlane report, the company’s year-on-year sales declined by 33 percent in the last month. The main reason for the decline in sales is said to be the shortage of semiconductors, due to which production is being affected significantly. Maruti Suzuki said that the impact of semi-conductor shortage on sales can be seen in November as well as in the new year.
Passenger vehicle sales down 33%
10 models of Maruti Suzuki were included in the list of October 2021 Top 25 Best Selling Cars. However, despite this, the company’s overall PV (passenger vehicle) sales declined by 33 percent. The drop in sales was seen in the mini and mid-side sedan segments. At the same time, the company’s UV sales increased year-on-year this year. Last month, the company sold a total of 1.08 lakh units. This is 33 percent less than October 2020. In the same month in October last year, the company had sold a total of 1.63 lakh units.

However, it was a matter of relief for the company that in comparison to September 2021, sales were much better in October. The company had sold a total of 63,111 units in September. Interestingly, except for the Ertiga and XL6, sales of all the company’s models have seen a year-on-year decline.
Alto Best Selling in October 2021
Rushlane said in its report that Maruti Suzuki’s Alto was the company’s best-selling car. Last month, 17,389 units of Alto were sold. However, this is 3 per cent less than the sales in October last year. In October 2020, 17,850 units of Alto were sold. At the same time, there was a great increase in the sale of Alto in October 2021 as compared to September 2021. Its MoM (Month-on-Month) sale increased by 43 percent. The company had sold a total of 12,143 units in September 2021.
Baleno’s sales decrease, Ertiga’s great performance
Maruti Suzuki Baleno was at number two, but its sales also decreased by 29 percent in October this year. In October last year, 21,971 units of Baleno were sold. At the same time, a total of 15,573 units of Baleno were sold in October this year. Maruti’s Ertiga was at number three. There has been a year-on-year growth of 67 percent in the sales of the Ertica. In October last year, the company sold 7,748 units of Ertiga, but this time in October, a total of 12,923 units were sold. Wagon R sales have come down by 34 percent. In October this year, 12,335 units of Wagon R were sold, which was 18,703 in October 2020.
Swift, Brezza and Dzire sales drop
The performance of Maruti Swift was also disappointing in October this year. The company had sold 24,589 units in October 2020, which declined by 63 percent to 9,180 units in October this year. Similarly, sales of Brezza and Dzire also saw a decrease in October 2020. This time there has been a decrease of 34 percent in the sale of Brezza as compared to October 2020 and 54 percent in the sale of Desire in October 2021.
XL6 sales up 89 percent
Talking about the S-Presso, the sale of this car has decreased by 58 percent as compared to October last year. In October 2020, the company sold 10,612 units of S-Presso, which came down to 4,442 units this year. Like the Ertiga, the XL6 saw a 89 percent increase in sales in October this year. By October 2021, the company sold 1,999 units of Celerio, 1,526 units of Ignis, 1,524 units of S-Cross and 1,069 units of Ciaz. Talking about the sales of Eeco Van, 10,320 units were sold this year, which was 13,309 in October 2020.
