
New Delhi . Many parts of the country including the national capital are in the grip of severe heat these days, which can lead to heat wave and other health related problems. According to health experts, extreme heat can lead to various types of heat stress conditions, such as heat stroke and heart and respiratory disorders.
Dr. Rohan Krishnan of ESI Hospital told IANS, “Delhi is going through a heat wave right now, and one must understand that it can be fatal as well, as it can cause various problems.”
Krishnan said that three categories of people are more likely to be affected by this severe heat wave.
Krishnan told IANS, “Firstly young adults and children below the age of 13 can be easily affected by this heat wave due to lack of fluid in the body. Secondly, elderly people above 60 years of age due to hormonal secretions. And thirdly, people who have a variety of diseases or who are on medication or cancer patients. These types of people need extra care and attention during this heat wave.”
He added that extreme heat can cause hyperthermia, which is a high body temperature without symptoms of cough and cold or any infection, but it can lead to dehydration, loss of appetite, vomiting, nausea and many other types of health problems. Huh.
Apart from hyperthermia, it can also cause dermatitis, heat edema, heat stroke and hypotension, the doctor said.
To avoid such health problems during heat stroke, Dr. Krishnan advised to drink more and more water, as sweating is the main reason for the loss of water in the body.
He also advised to avoid drinking cold water after entering indoors from outside environment, as it can also lead to throat infection and consequently, any kind of throat infection and irritation, during the rising cases of COVID-19. The person may be at risk of covid infection.
Dr. Krishnan said, “We have to counter check the water intake. At least 4-6 liters of water is needed daily in summers. Should not drink, as it can cause throat infection and any type of throat infection and irritation in this covid condition can put you at higher risk of covid infection.The maximum heat is between 11 am to 3 pm So you should avoid going out during the day.”
