The premium hatchback Suzuki Baleno has got a zero star rating in the Latin NCAP crash test. This is a big blow to the customers who have bought this car and are planning to buy. Baleno is the best selling car in India’s premium hatchback segment and its disappointing performance in Latin NCAP is considered extremely unfortunate. The Baleno standard made in India comes with two airbags.
Failed side and rear impact tests too
The Baleno, made in India, scored 20.03 percent in adult occupant box, 17.06 percent in child occupant box, 64.06 percent in pedestrian protection and 6.98 percent in safety assist box during Latin NCAP testing. The car also performed poorly in side impact protection and also got very low marks in the rear impact test due to its lack of UN32 proof. The car also did not have standard ESC with standard side head protection and Maruti Suzuki did not even recommend CRS i.e. child restraint system for testing. That’s why the car got such a low score in the NCAP test.

Balenos sold in Europe have 6 airbags
Talking about the Baleno sold in Europe, 6 airbags and ESC are available in the standard variant only. At the same time, in Latin America, the company offers this car without ESC and without curtain (side-body) airbags. Suzuki had refused to test the optional equipment. This has also raised questions on the extra safety elements of the car.
‘Unfortunate to see another zero star car from Suzuki’
Latin NCAP Chairman Stephan Broadziak said, “It is unfortunate to see another zero star car from Suzuki, in this case the Baleno model, which is promoted in some countries as Good, Nice, Baleno, in which we now have to reduce the Low Safety. should also be included. Similarly, Latin NCAP secretary general Alejandro Furas also commented on the poor performance of the Baleno, saying that bringing this car to zero stars is a part of Swift’s disappointing zero star rating performance a few weeks ago.
