London . The rate of depression and anxiety is higher in people who have been bedridden for 7 days or more of a corona-infected person, compared to those who have been corona-infected but have never resorted to beds. This information has come out of a new study published in The Lancet Public Health. According to the report, individuals infected with the virus SARS-CoV-2 who were never admitted to the hospital remained in depression for 16 months after recovery. This is more than people who have never been infected.
While symptoms of depression and anxiety mostly subside within two months for patients who are not hospitalized, those in bed for 7 days or more are more likely to experience depression and anxiety by 16 months. 60 percent higher.
The rapid recovery of coronavirus symptoms in the body may partly explain why mental health symptoms decrease at a similar rate to those with mild infections. However, patients with severe coronavirus are often prone to inflammation, which has previously been linked to mental health effects, especially depression.
Ingibjorg Magnusdottir from the University of Iceland said, “Corona patients have more depression and anxiety problems than those who have spent seven days or more in bed.”
To look at long-term mental health effects, the researchers looked at the spread of symptoms of depression, anxiety, corona-related anxiety and poor sleep quality in people with and without coronavirus recovery from 0-16 months.
The analysis was collected from 247,249 people in 7 groups in Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and the UK.
People recovering from coronavirus are more prone to depression and poor sleep quality than those who have never been tested.
University Professor Unnur Anna Valdimarsdottir said, “Our research is the first to detect mental health symptoms after a severe corona illness in the general population up to 16 months after diagnosis. It suggests that mental health effects are common to all corona patients. and time spent in bed is an important factor in determining the severity of mental health effects.”
“We are entering the third year of the pandemic. There has been an increase in the proportion of patients with severe coronavirus disease having adverse mental health and follow-up studies beyond the first year after infection are critical to ensure timely access to care “
