
Indian badminton player B Sai Praneeth Corona Positive had to withdraw from the Thailand Open Super 1000 tournament due to being found positive for Kovid-19. Former world No.1 player Kidambi Srikanth was also forced to withdraw from the tournament as per World Badminton Federation (BWF) guidelines due to being in the same room with Praneeth.

The BWF said that Kidambi Srikanth lived in a room with Praneeth in the official hotel and hence had to withdraw from the tournament. Srikanth defeated Thailand’s Sittikom Thammasin 21-11 21-11 on Tuesday. The 14th ranked Indian player had to withdraw from the tournament last week due to a hamstring injury to his calf.

The federation said, ‘As per the BWF protocol, Kidambi Srikanth had to withdraw from the Thailand Open and has been kept in tight isolation. However, the result of his test report came negative on Monday and all his results were negative after reaching Thailand.
In Monday’s mandatory PCR test, the results of other players from India have come negative and they have been allowed to play in the tournament. Health officials, Thailand Badminton Association and BWF have also restricted the activities of the remaining members of the Indian team to 14 days as per the protocol of the tournament.
Last week, Saina Nehwal and HS Prannoy were initially found positive for the Kovid-19 but were later allowed to play at the Thailand Open after appearing in the new Test.
