When buying a car, apart from the look, design and mileage, how much do you think about the safety features and strength offered in it. If you have not paid attention to this thing till now, then definitely pay attention now. The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki may be at the number one position in the passenger car segment, but the company’s best selling hatchback car Maruti Swift has proved to be lackluster in terms of safety.
In fact, under the Latin America and Caribbean (NCAP) Car Assessment Program, Maruti Suzuki’s recently launched new Swift was crash tested. You will be surprised to know that this car, which has ruled millions of hearts, has got a zero rating in the crash test. The company launched the same car with its facelift model with new updates.
The variant of the Maruti Swift that has been included in this crash test was given two airbags. The DZire also got a zero rating in the Latin Encap crash test. During this crash test, Swift got 15.53% (6.21 points) for adult safety, 0% for child safety and (0 points), 6.98% (3 points) for pedestrian safety on pedestrian road.
Latin NCAP says poor side impact protection, low whiplash score, lack of standard side protection airbags, absence of ESC, use of lap belt instead of three-point unit in rear center seat will give the car a zero (0 ) got star rating. Not only this, Suzuki does not recommend Child Restraint Systems (CRS) in this car.
The NCAP also says that, while the head and neck protection provided to the driver and passenger was good, the driver’s chest area has seen weak protection. In addition, the knees of the driver and passenger get minor protection, as the components behind the dashboard can severely impact it during a sharp hit.
Whereas in case of side impact of the car, the head and abdomen protection was adequate but the protection of the chest area was poor, resulting in the car getting a zero rating in this test. Interestingly, where this current Swift has got a zero rating in the Latin NCAP tests. At the same time, the same model got a 2-star safety rating in the Global NCAP test in 2018. The difference in these results is believed to be due to changes in the testing protocols of the Global NCAP and Latin NCAP.
