Nimmi was the choice of every director in the 50-60s. But a decision taken in a cinematic career overshadowed his career. In fact, director Harman Singh Rawal was making a film called ‘Mere Mehboob’, in which Rajendra Kumar’s opposite he wanted to cast Nimmi, but Nimmi wanted to play Rajendra Kumar’s sister, who was the second lead role in the film. Nawab Bano became ‘Nimmi’ because of Tabassum
Nawab Bano was named Nimmi by Raj Kapoor. Its funny anecdote was narrated by Tabassum. In ‘Tabsum Talkies’ Tabassum had told that all the ‘Kinnis’ were calling him in the house, which was given to him by Raj Kapoor. Raj Kapoor said that Tabassum is a very difficult name and hence the name Kinni is correct. Tabassum loved his name ‘Kinney’. One day, Raj Kapoor came to Tabassum’s house and his father said that I am launching a new girl in my film ‘Barsaat’, named Nawab Bano. Nawab Bano is a very difficult name, so I am naming him ‘Kinney’. On hearing this, the little Tabassum started crying in broad roar, then it was decided that ‘Kinni’ would be only Tabassum’s name, Nawab Bano would be named ‘Nimmi’.
Nimmi’s last film also had many twists
Nimmi’s last film was ‘Love and God’. Earlier, Gurudutt was signed in the lead role, but due to the untimely demise of Gurudutt, this role was given to Sanjeev Kumar. K. Asif, who is directing this film, also passed away after some time. After which Asif’s wife Akhtar Asif, director K.K. Together with C. Bokadia, he completed ‘Love and God’ and released it in 1986.
