A source before the release has revealed information related to the upcoming Disappearing Messages feature. WhatsApp users will be able to enable this feature whenever they want.
Users will not get the option to customize ‘Disappearing Messages’. Once this feature is enabled, all new messages will expire after 7 days. That is, users cannot set the time for the message to disappear according to their own. Sources say that the message will disappear if you do not open the chat for 7 days. But, if you have not cleared the notification panel, then you will be able to check the message there.

However, if you want to restore those disparate messages from backup, this will not be possible, as they will be deleted. For this, there will be a Save to Camera Roll option, which will have to be manually enabled.
The Disappearing Messages feature will be available for iOS, Android, KaiOS and web / desktop users. This feature will not be enabled in the default WhatsApp and users have to enable it manually.
